Green Food Week 2025

Menu dedicated to sustainability
Also this year, school canteens in Bologna are participating in the national Green Food Week initiative organized from 7 to 11 April and created to promote food with low environmental impact in school, university and corporate canteens.
On Thursday, April 10, in all schools in the City of Bologna, a green menu will be proposed that will include preparations with a lower environmental impact and based on organic, Italian, zero-kilometer and sustainable products.
The City of Bologna thus adheres to Green Food Week 2025, in continuity with the other actions aimed at sustainability that characterize the school lunch service.
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, water and soil consumption, we accept the requests of the international scientific community, which recommends making legumes the protagonists of the meal.
The objective of the initiative is to demonstrate that there are delicious second courses based on chickpeas, beans or lentils, key foods of the Mediterranean Diet that should also appear on children's tables at least four times a week, as recommended by the Italian Society of Pediatrics.

Green Food Week 2025 aims at the participation and involvement of all those involved: families and, in particular, teachers, will be able to develop educational courses aimed at preparing for the day, exploiting the theme of food to develop educational programs that deal with sustainability and healthy nutrition, greater attention to the prevention and recovery of waste.
