A fun and safe way to go to school
What are pedibuses and bicibuses
They are groups of girls and boys who go to school together on foot or by bicycle, accompanied by some parents or volunteers from local associations, who perform the function of 'drivers'. As with a school bus, there is a route with stops, fixed times and a regulation to follow.
Each school may have several pedibus and bicibus lines that accompany students in time for the start of classes.
The project is aimed at primary schools (with the possibility of extension to kindergartens).
How is a pedibus or a bicibus created
A pedibus or a bicibus was created on the initiative of the school and the parents who, with the support of operators from the Municipality and the Districts, decide together the routes, the stops and everything that they consider useful for the safety of those who participate.
How they work
At the terminus or at the most convenient stop, at the appointed time, boys and girls find their companions and parents who act as drivers. The pedibus or the bicibus leaves and, at the next stops, there are the waiting boys and girls.
Why the pedibus and the bicibus
The pedibus and the bicibus are first and foremost a comfortable choice for the families who participate in it, a change in the morning organization that has at least two advantages:
- collaboration with other parents means that you do not have to accompany your children to school every day and, for those who usually use the car even to go to work, it is really convenient to avoid traffic approaching school;
- an ecological and healthy choice, which is good for the community, parents and children: in addition to reducing traffic and polluting emissions, it offers the opportunity to be physically active, to be together with classmates, to become more aware and competent pedestrians and to learn more about your neighborhood.
