The Alma Mater Studiorum, the oldest university in the Western world, paves the way for innovation through teaching and research always in the forefront.

Since its origins in 1088, Alma Mater has focused on its students and hosted preminent figures from the artistic and scientific worlds. Based in five campuses (Bologna, Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini) and with a branch in Buenos Aires, it offers a wide range of courses: over 200 degree programmes, 33 Departments and 11 Schools are available to over 81,000 students and 5,000 postgraduates.

Alma Mater promotes a multidisciplinary cross-cultural approach and is one of the most active universities participating in European research and international academic cooperation projects. Bologna University has formed close alliances with industry and public and private organizations; it is the hub of several international networks and enjoys multiple partnerships with America, Africa, Asia and Australia.

ACTIVITIES

Services accessible to all students: general guidance; job placement, psychological assistance; libraries; museums; study rooms also open in the evenings and at weekends; cultural, sports and recreational activities including initiatives promoted by student organisations with financial support from the University.

Education: over 200 courses, 50 of which are international and 33 of which are taught in English. 50% are Postgraduate courses.

Research: 11,000 research products (annual average); 220 patents; 15 spin-offs created or recognised between 2013 and 2015
